- Dave Hoddinott -
Dave Hoddinott was born and grew up in Newfoundland on Canada's East Cost. In 1995, he left his 20 year career in architectural drafting and illustration field to pursue his dream of becoming a full time artist. Working mainly in acrylics, Dave is best known for is dramatic light filled landscape paintings. A recent article about Dave's artwork says "If the hand of the artist captures what he sees in his mind's eye, the mind of Dave Hoddinott is bathed in light and built in symmetry. In an age that operates on the clock, Dave paints an outlet that freezes the simplicity and beauty of everyday scenes, sharing what he sees with the viewing world". Talking about Newfoundland, he says: "The Landscape is so dominant, the ocean, hill, sky and even the unique architecture, around every corner is another rich image to be put to canvas". Dave has always sketched and painted even as a young boy. "I always had a pencil and paper in my hands everywhere I went". He has been exhibiting his paintings in group and one man shows since 1982 and has won several awards for his artwork. His paintings and prints are in many corporate and private collections throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. Today, Dave lives and paints in St. John's, Newfoundland, considered to be the oldest city in North America.... "Even though you are in the city, you are only minutes from the ocean and countryside. It's a wonderful place to live and raise your children.
